Stories and Connections
Behind every rug is a story, and behind every story are the people who make it possible. We are grateful for the visitors and customers who have spent time with our artisans, shared conversations, and learned about the traditions behind our work.
These moments remind us that weaving is not only about creating textiles—it is also about building connections between people, cultures, and communities.
Our Workshop in Timahdite
Every rug and pillow we sell is woven in our own workshop in Timahdite, in the Middle Atlas Mountains of Morocco, by the women of our cooperative. Berspacee is the registered Moroccan business behind that workshop (Identifiant Fiscal 53837114, registered 9 June 2023 for the manual manufacture of rugs).
We do not buy finished rugs from wholesalers and we do not resell other sellers stock. Each piece listed on this site is a single, finished, one-of-a-kind rug that already exists in our workshop before it is photographed and listed.
How a Rug Is Made Here
Wool is sourced from local suppliers in Morocco, then washed, prepared and spun into yarn by hand before weaving begins. Colours are sometimes made with traditional natural ingredients such as henna, pomegranate, saffron, chamomile, olive leaves and walnuts.
Weaving is done by hand on vertical looms. Depending on size and design, a single rug takes several weeks to several months. When the weaving is finished the rug is washed, finished by hand and dried outdoors before it is inspected and prepared for shipping.
Because every piece is made by hand, small variations in colour, texture, pattern and size are normal and are not defects.
The Women of the Cooperative
Our cooperative is led by Fatima Falfouli and gives paid work and training to women in the Timahdite area. The weaving craft practised by Amazigh women in this region has been passed down through generations, and the motifs and geometric patterns in our rugs come from that regional heritage.
Selling the finished textiles directly to customers is what keeps that work paid and that skill alive.
Visiting the Cooperative
Our workshop is at N13, Timahdite 53104, Morocco. Customers and visitors who travel to the region are welcome to come and see the looms, meet the weavers and watch how the rugs are made.
If you would like to visit, write to us at contact@berspacee.com or call +212 776 532 019 beforehand so someone is there to receive you.
Meaningful Moments and Visitors
Some of our moments come from the people we meet along the way. Over the years, we have had the pleasure of welcoming customers and visitors to our cooperative, where they can learn about the traditions, techniques, and stories behind Moroccan rug weaving.
Discovering Moroccan Culture
For many, discovering a rug is also an opportunity to learn about a culture, meet the artisans who create each piece, and gain a understanding of life in the Middle Atlas Mountains.
These visits often become exchanges of knowledge, experiences, and perspectives.
Valued Memories and Global Connections
These moments are among our memories. They remind us that rugs are not only a reflection of craftsmanship but also a connection between people from different places and cultures.
We are grateful to everyone who has taken the time to visit, learn, and become part of our journey
