About Berspacee

Legal Name: Berspacee

Hi there! Welcome to Berspacee.

We are a group of women artisans from the Middle Atlas Mountains of Morocco. For us, weaving is more than a craft—it is part of our daily lives and cultural heritage. Many of us learned by watching our mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and neighbors work at their looms. Through these generations of shared knowledge, we inherited not only weaving techniques but also the patience, creativity, and pride that go into every rug we create.

The Meaning Behind Berspacee

Our name, Berspacee, reflects the people and traditions that inspire our work.

The word "Ber" comes from Berber, also known as the Amazigh people, the Indigenous communities of North Africa who have preserved their culture, craftsmanship, and way of life for centuries.

The word "Spacee" represents the place where people gather, live, rest, and create memories. Traditionally, rugs have always been at the heart of Amazigh homes. Families would sit together on them, welcome guests, share meals, tell stories, and sleep on them. Rugs were not simply decorations—they were an essential part of everyday life.

Together, Berspacee means "the place of the Berber people"—a reflection of the homes, traditions, and communities that inspire every piece we create.

Our Story

Our association was founded in 2003 with a single plot of land and a shared dream, led by Fatima Falfouli, one of the original founders. Fatima has devoted her work to supporting women in our community, preserving weaving traditions, and helping each artisan develop her skills.

Today, with two workshops and over 60 members, our cooperative continues under her guidance, providing meaningful work and opportunities for women in the region.

We have been weaving for generations. Amazigh women have practiced this craft since 600 B.C. Every thread carries the stories, symbols, and knowledge passed down through families. From motifs that reflect cultural beliefs to patterns inspired by daily life, each rug tells a story.

How We Make Our Rugs

Every Berspacee rug is handcrafted using traditional techniques passed down through generations.

Wool

We use sheep, goat, or camel wool sourced locally and gathered with care and respect for the animals.

Preparing the Wool

The wool is carefully washed, brushed, carded, and spun by hand to create strong, durable fibers.

Natural Dyeing

Many of our colors come from natural ingredients such as henna, pomegranate, saffron, chamomile, olive leaves, and walnut. These traditional dyeing methods create rich, unique tones inspired by the natural landscape of Morocco.

The Loom

Every rug is woven by hand on traditional vertical looms using techniques that have been practiced in our region for generations.

Knot by Knot

Creating a rug takes time, patience, and skill. Some pieces require weeks or even months of work, with artisans tying thousands of knots by hand.

Finishing Touches

Once completed, each rug is carefully washed, hand-finished, and dried under the Moroccan sun before beginning its journey to its new home.

Because every piece is handmade, natural variations in color, texture, and pattern are part of what makes each rug unique.

Our collection reflects the rich weaving traditions of the Middle Atlas region and includes:

Why We Do This

Weaving connects us to our history, our community, and the generations of women who came before us.

By sharing our rugs with customers around the world, we help create opportunities for artisans while preserving traditional weaving techniques that have been passed down for centuries.

Our association also serves as a place where artisans continue learning, refining their skills, and passing their knowledge on to younger generations, ensuring that these traditions remain alive for years to come.

From Our Hands to Yours

At Berspacee, every rug, pillow, and textile carries the skill, effort, and cultural heritage of the artisans who made it.

Each piece reflects the traditions of the Middle Atlas Mountains and the generations of women who have preserved this craft through their dedication and creativity.

We are grateful to everyone who chooses to bring one of our handmade creations into their home. Your support helps preserve traditional craftsmanship, strengthen artisan communities, and keep these stories alive for future generations.

Thank you for being part of our journey.
